I can recall to my boy the adventures I read about when I was his age. It's hard to pick one reason why he is so popular. It could well be the Utility Belt although maybe it's the sidekick Robin.

Thanks to being bitten by a strange spider, our hero Peter Parker finds he has the powers of an arachnid including sticking to walls. He has a great cast of baddies such as the vulture & the green goblin though of course Spiderman always wins in the end. Superman ;

This orphan from another planet was quickly adopted by Earth and now has become one of our greatest heroes! Everyone knows the story of Superman that's just how well known he is. Anywhere you might go in the western world, and be sure folks would know his famous logo! Boys would love to be able to leap tall buildings in a single jump while also being able to have bullets bounce harmlessly off them.
